VALLEY VOICES: How do you plan on staying cool this summer?

Wednesday, May 13, 2009 11:10 PM PDT

As the weather has gotten hotter, I have been contemplating how to make it through another Imperial Valley summer.

I’ve been in the Valley many a summer during junior high and high school. This is my second summer since returning after college, but I will never get used to the heat. My plans to stay cool include blocks of ice, swimming at my apartment, checking out the new pool/lazy river area at Quechan Casino Resort and the beach.

So, on Wednesday I went about looking for anyone with suggestions on how to make it through another summer. Here is how other Imperial Valley residents said they plan to stay cool in our 100-plus degree temperatures:

“Stay inside, go swim somewhere.”

Joseph Beene, eighth-grader at Wilson Junior High School in El Centro

“Swimming a lot. I also hope to get to San Diego frequently.”

Ann Marie Zimmerman, Imperial County resident

“Going to the pool.”

Tasha Huerta, kindergartener at Christ Community School in El Centro

“Frequent trips to San Diego and staying as near to the beach as possible.”

Corina Samaniego, El Centro resident
