UPCOMING EVENTS: PALs to have football camp By IMPERIAL VALLEY PRESS STAFF

The Brawley and Calipatria police activities leagues will host a football camp for youths ages 8 to 14 from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 31 at the Pop Warner field in Brawley.
Registration is $5 per youth and is limited to the first 100 youths. Participants will receive a camp T-shirt and lunch. Applications are available at both PAL centers, both cities’ police departments, Graffik Graffiti in Brawley, J&J Tire Co. in Calipatria and at the Westmorland Police Department.
All-Valley B.R. to have sign-ups
All-Valley Babe Ruth Softball will have sign-ups from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Fridays and from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. today and May 17.
Sign-ups will be at the Stark Field snack bar in El Centro. Registration is open for players ages 4 to 18. Parents or guardians must provide a copy of official birth certificate. Registration is $45.

Sea Lions have sign-ups
The Imperial Sea Lions swim team will have sign-ups from 5:30 to 7:30 today at the Imperial Parks and Recreation Department.
Registration is $55 for the first child and $50 for the second. Parents or guardians must provide a copy of birth certificate.
Sunsations to have sign-ups
The El Centro Sunsations swim team will have sign-ups at Cathy’s Bookkeeping, 395 Broadway Ave., in El Centro.
Registration will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, May 15, May 17, May 19 and May 22.
Registration will be $75 for the first swimmer and $65 for additional swimmers.
Parent or guardian must provide a copy of birth certificate. All new swimmers will be tested at the Central pool on May 26.
IVGSL to have board elections
The Imperial Valley Girls Softball League will have board elections at 6:30 p.m. May 14 at Debbie Pittman Field in El Centro.

Darts league forming
Registration for several summer dart leagues in El Centro, Brawley, Seeley, Imperial and Ocotillo is open to men and women of all skill levels.
All leagues are sanctioned through the National Dart Association and allow players to compete in regional and national tournaments.
Full teams may register. League operators will help individuals and partial teams form full teams.
A four-person cricket league will play Tuesdays starting May 13. A second four-person cricket league will play Thursdays starting May 22. A Friday mixed couples league will begin May 23.

Brawley to have hoops tourney
The Brawley Union High boys’ basketball program will have a 3-on-3 tournament June 7 at the school.
The tournament will feature three divisions — 8th grade-and-under, high school and 19-and-older. Registration is $25 per team.

Baseball league has sign-ups
A men’s 18-and-over baseball league is having continuous sign-ups for its league which is set to start in September.

Stokes to host football camp
Former UCLA Bruins and San Francisco 49ers wide receiver J.J. Stokes will host the Catch 83 football camp May 30 to June 1 at Southwest High in El Centro.
The camp is open to youths in two different age categories — 9 to 13 and 14 to 17. More information will follow during the coming weeks.
Holtville P.W. to have sign-ups
Holtville Pop Warner will have its final sign-ups from 6 to 8 p.m. May 13 at the Finley Elementary School cafeteria in Holtville.
Registration is open to youths 5 to 14. Youths must be present with a parent or guardian and must have a certified copy of their birth certificate.
Registration is $75.
Holtville Pop Warner is also looking for football and cheer coaches.
The association will also have its first drive-through barbecue fundraiser from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Holtville Athletic Club on Zenos Road. Barbecue plates will be $7 each. For more information call 540-0546 or 356-3564.
Skipper golf tourney set
The James Skipper Honorary Gridiron Classic Golf Tournament will tee off at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Del Rio Country Club in Brawley.
Entry is $100 per player and features a two-man, best-ball format. Reservations are needed. Proceeds will benefit the Brawley Union High football program.
Lunch will be at 11:30 a.m. Tee sponsorships are available for $100. To register call Larry Fleming at 427-4977 or Anna Kortsen at 996-7757.
Free combine offered to players
Nationwiderecruits.com is offering a free combine to football athletes in the graduating classes of 2009, 2010 and 2011 from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Southwest High in El Centro.
Nationwiderecruits.com will test players in the 40-yard shuffle, 20-yard shuffle, L-cone, vertical, broad jump and one-one-one drills. All scores collected will be posted on its Web site and sent to colleges and university across the nation.
Nationwiderecruits.com will also provide questionnaires from several colleges in Division 1 through NAIA and junior college. Registration will be from 7 to 7:45 a.m. the day of the combine. For more information go to http://.nationwiderecruits.com
Calexico P.W. to have sign-ups
Calexico Pop Warner will have sign-ups at the Camarena Memorial Library in Calexico.
Sign-up dates will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and May 24 and from 5 to 7:45 p.m. May 13, May 20 and May 27.
Parents or guardians must provide a recent report card, birth certificate and one photo. Players must be ages 5 to 14. The organization is also looking for volunteer coaches, team moms and team dads. Anyone interested should fill out an application during the sign-ups, preferably Saturday.

Babe Ruth seeks players, coaches
Northend Babe Ruth will have registration for players from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays in the press box at Wiest Field in Brawley.
All youths ages 13 to 18 are welcomed to register. Players in other leagues are encouraged to sign-up early to reserve a spot. Registration is $50.
A birth certificate and proof of residency are required at the time of registration.
Parents or legal guardians must be present to fill out necessary paperwork. Northend Babe Ruth is also seeking coaches. For more information call Eric Reyes at 351-9300.

A horseshoe tournament is scheduled for 9 a.m. May 17 at Gonzalez Park in Brawley.

USYVL has registration
The United States Youth Volleyball League will have a league from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturdays through June 7 at the Savanna Ranch Park.
